Project background

The main aim of the 5X30 Project is to increase people’s moderate levels of physical activity within the area by 1% year on year, leading to a total 3% increase in the population being physically active by the end of the 3 year project period.

Where did the idea come from?
The World Health Organisation has developed (under a May 2002 mandate from Member States), a Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, which was endorsed by the May 2004 World Health Assembly.

In line with this, the Government produced a strategy (Game Plan, 2002) for delivering sport and physical activity.

How is the 5X30 Project funded??
Following the success of the original project, Funding for the extended 5x30 Devonwide Project is now received from Sport England, The Big Lottery Fund (via the Southwest Wellbeing Programme), Devon County Council, Devon Primary Care Trust, local District Councils, and Upstream.

Direct input to the project is also valued from those partners highlighted above in supporting Westbank with the management of the project and delivering on project outcomes at a local level.

For information on other funding organisations see the partners page.
