Cycle Recycle in Combe Martin
Local Community Actiavtor Danny Hughes is working with Transform, Youth Service and Combe Martin Primary school to develop a cycle club for young people.
The club will provide the opportunity for young people to learn how to maintain and build their own bikes.
Building on a similar scheme in Ilfracombe it is hoped that bikes repossessed by the police or purchased from the local Recycling Centre will be used.
One of the aims will be to involve and train volunteers so that the project can be established and sustained within the community.


Healthy Town Initiative in Ilfracombe
Transform, an Ilfracombe based Community Development Trust has
received funding for running a Healthy Towns Initiative, the aim is to develop health bound initiatives in Ilfracombe for adults & children
5X30 has agreed to be a partner and local Community Activator Danny Hughes will work with Transform on developing an activities programme.



5X30 Grants and support
Combe Martin Walk & Talk have received a 5X30 grant to fund hiring a mini bus so that they can run walks further afield, so far the group has visited Baggy Point, Woolacombe and Tarr Steps.

New Equipment for Chulmleigh Tennis Club -
new mini tennis nets have been purchased.

Chulmleigh Badminton Club to do outreach work in rural communities-
The club has been able to fund a level 2 coaching award for a local volunteer which will allow them to deliver outreach work in the outlying rural communities.

West Down Youth Group receive support and advice -
Community Activator Danny Hughes has held meetings with West Down Youth Group, coordinated links with Devon Youth Service and the local Primary school, delivered a 5X30 Sports kitbag and arranged for a local volunteer to receive Level 1 FA Football training.

Ilfracombe Youth Service receive Sports Kitbag -
The Youth Service has received a 5X30 Kitbag which they will share with youth groups in the Ilfracombe area.


Sports Taster Day at IAC on 23 September
This was a partnership event with Ilfracombe Learning Community, Transform, 5X30 Health Initiative, local Sports Clubs and North Devon PEDPASS Partnership.

The aim was to :

• Promote the wide range of after school activities offered at Ilfracombe College.
• Offer local sports club the opportunity to advertise and sign up young people to their clubs and where possible encourage them to use college facilities.
• Encourage parents and the local community to attend so that they can see the wide range of activities offered and sign up to after school clubs and local sports clubs.

What happened on the day...

• Over 500 young people from Ilfracombe College and local primary schools attended
• The College, 5X30, Transform, Youth Service and local clubs were present and held exhibitions
• Demonstrations of mini tennis, badminton, table tennis, wall climbing and Frisbee with Dave Samuels from 5X30!





Barnstaple Town Council Walking Day
Barnstaple Town Council Walking Day took place on Saturday 30 May at the Strand, Barnstaple. The event saw stalls promoting Healthy Life styles offered walks led by the Ramblers & Barnstaple Walk & Talk Group which left the Strand on the hour from 11am to 3pm.

The event was a collaboration between the Town Council, The Ramblers and Barnstaple Walk & Talk Group, with assistance from Danny Hughes 5X30 North Devon District Coordinator.
