What is 5X30 Devonwide?

5x30 Devonwide is a physical activity for health project which aims to encourage and support individuals and communities to become more active by helping them to establish and access physical activity opportunities in their local area

Inspiring the name of the project is recognition from The World Health Organisation that for long term health and wellbeing people should undertake at least 30 minutes of (moderate intensity) physical activity at least 5 times a week.....that's 5X30!

The 5x30 Devonwide project is managed by Westbank Healthy Living and Community Care Centre in Exminster, Devon and is supported and funded by Sport England, the Big Lottery Fund, Devon local District Councils, and Upstream Healthy Living Centre.

The project is currently active in Mid Devon, North Devon, Teignbridge, Torridge and West Devon. In each of these districts the 5x30 project has placed Community Activators who are able to provide motivation, support, and information on all aspects of setting up physical activity opportunities.
Why do we need the 5X30 Project?
Many people in Devon suffer from rural isolation with areas characterised by high access deprivation, low wages, high house prices and continued dependency on agriculture.

Decline in rural services e.g. village halls, post offices and other facilities, means people do not have as many opportunities to access physical activities.

Health issues - 70% of adults are not active enough to benefit their health. Inactivity causes heart disease, diabetes, stress and obesity. General lack of understanding of what physical activity is. It isn't just sport!
